As a true alternative to mercury-containing HPS lamps, HPS color LEDs support the transition to a mercury-free society and contribute to carbon neutrality.
Addressing Challenges in LED Adoption
High-Pressure Sodium (HPS) lamps typically have a color temperature around 1800 Kelvin (K). This color temperature gives HPS lamps their characteristic warm, amber-yellow light, which is commonly used for street lighting and outdoor applications. In contrast, conventional LED outdoor lighting has a bluish-white light of 5000K or more. Further more, with conventional warm white LEDs, the amber-yellow, 1800K light, is not possible to reproduce.
While the adoption of LEDs for street and outdoor lighting has surged in the past decade due to their high-efficiency and long lifespan, this impossibility to reproduce the light of HPS lamps has created still challenges in residential and urban areas. Concerns about the different light of conventional LEDs altering the familiar landscape and atmosphere have hindered widespread adoption.
