Important information:
- Safety precautions when using UV light sources must be respected, as detailed in IEC Standard 62471:2006, ‘Photobiological Safety of Lamps and Lamp Systems’, EU-Directive-2006-25-EC or the applicable standard for your country
- We are not responsible for the damage, on the health of well-being or to property for the incorrect use of UV light sources
- For killing viruses or bacteria with UV, they must be directly exposed to the radiation. Dirt and other impurities that shade the microorganisms will severely limit the effectiveness of UV disinfection
- UV disinfection is only one of the weapons to fight virus and bacteria. Personal hygiene (washing of hands), not touching the face, using disinfection on dirty surfaces must also be practiced when fighting a pandemic.
- The percentage of the disinfection for any given virus or bacteria on a surface, object, in the air, water or on clothes is depended on the type of pathogen, the wavelength of the UV radiation, its irradiance in Watts/m2 and the time of exposure, measured in seconds, minutes or hours.
- 100% disinfection is not guaranteed. Similarly, no vaccine, medicine or surgical procedure is 100% effective. UV radiation will just reduce the chance of contamination of the surface, air or objects with viruses or bacteria to cause a disease
- Examples of combination of wavelength, radiance and exposure time for some common pathogens are found in the article in our blog
