Helps regulate circadian rhythms, enhancing alertness and focus during working hours.
Applications:
Linear light, Downlight, Cove light
Nichia’s Dynasolis™ LED technology is a revolutionary advancement in human-centric lighting. It focuses on regulating circadian rhythms through a sophisticated combination of energizing azure (sky blue) light and a calming warm white hue. This innovative approach provides optimal lighting conditions that cater to both the visual and non-visual needs of human physiology, promoting better health, well-being, and productivity.

The Concept of Human Centric Lighting
Human Centric Lighting (HCL) is a lighting design approach that focuses on enhancing human well-being, health, and performance by considering the physiological, psychological, and emotional effects of light. With advances in LED technology, tunable white LED lighting solutions have made it possible to emulate natural light indoors, creating a more comfortable and productive environment for living, working, and leisure.
To obtain a Human Centric Lighting system, a combination of warm white (2700K) and cool white (6500K) LED light sources is typically used. This creates tunable white lighting, which can be adjusted to produce various shades of white light with a color temperature ranging between 2700K and 6500K. This can be made to match the color temperature of daylight at a certain time during the day, for example:

Natural morning light, abundant in 480nm wavelengths, stimulates serotonin secretion, the "happy hormone" that activates the body and mind. Higher serotonin levels in the morning lead to increased melatonin production later in the day, promoting better sleep in the evening and overall well-being during the day.
Conventional color tuning typically uses 6500K cool white LEDs and 2700K warm white LEDs, a tunable white lighting solution that has insufficient 480 nm light spectrum. This leads to insufficient serotonin secretion in the morning, with lower physical and mental activation, and decreased melatonin production later in the day, with lower quality sleep in the evening.
Dynasolis™ replaces the 6500K cool white LEDs side with Azure LEDs, maximizing melanopic illuminance and stimulating both physical and mental activation in the morning. By gradually reducing azure light, as the day passes, and shifting to warmer light, Dynasolis™ creates a comfortable and relaxing lighting environment in the afternoon that also leads to high-quality sleep in the evening. This approach, focusing on spectrum tuning, effectively supports circadian rhythm regulation.

With this innovative approach, Nichia’s Dynasolis™ represents a significant advancement in human-centric lighting, offering a unique solution that combines spectrum and color tuning to regulate circadian rhythms. By incorporating energizing azure light and calming warm white hues, Dynasolis™ enhances physical and mental well-being, making it an ideal choice for many applications, from offices and homes to healthcare facilities and schools. As more people become aware of the health benefits of proper lighting, Dynasolis™ stands out as a versatile and effective solution for creating optimal lighting environments.
1. Dual Spectrum Tuning
Dynasolis™ enables both color tuning and spectrum tuning, offering a range from an energizing azure spectrum to a calming spectrum. This supports the regulation of circadian rhythms, enhancing comfort and well-being in various indoor settings.
Spectrum Comparison: Compared to conventional 6500K LEDs, Dynasolis™ significantly boosts the 480nm area, crucial for melanopic sensitivity. This enhanced spectrum tuning supports better regulation of circadian rhythms throughout the day.

2. Melanopic Illuminance
Melanopic illuminance captures the brightness that affects circadian rhythms, weighted to intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) in the retina. High melanopic illuminance stimulates serotonin secretion, regulating the internal clock, improving mood, alertness, and sleep quality.

3. High CRI and Efficacy
Dynasolis™ maintains a high CRI and efficacy, ensuring superior lighting quality while supporting circadian health. This balance makes it suitable for diverse applications, including offices, residential areas, and healthcare facilities.

To validate the benefits of Dynasolis™, Nichia commissioned the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP) to conduct a comprehensive study analyzing its cognitive and psychological effects.
The Fraunhofer IBP designed a series of comparative tests to evaluate the effects of Dynasolis™ lighting on human alertness, attention, and relaxation. Approximately 35 test subjects participated in each test series, where they were exposed to different lighting conditions, including standard LEDs (2700K, 4000K, and 6000K, each with CRI 83+) and the Dynasolis™ solution at color temperatures of 2700K, 6000K, and 10000K.

The tests included the Stroop Task for attention evaluation, the AuReTim method for measuring alertness, and the PANAS (Positive and Negative Affect Schedule) test for assessing stress levels and relaxation.

1. Enhanced Attention and Reaction Times
The Stroop Task revealed significant improvements in reaction times when subjects were under the Dynasolis™ 6000K lighting compared to standard 6000K LEDs without cyan light. The inclusion of cyan light in the Dynasolis™ solution resulted in shorter reaction times, indicating improved attention and cognitive performance. Furthermore, subjects responded even faster under Dynasolis™ 10000K, highlighting the positive impact of increased cyan light on attention.
2. Improved Alertness
The AuReTim alertness test demonstrated that color temperature significantly affects alertness levels. Subjects were more alert under higher color temperatures (6000K) compared to lower ones (4000K). This effect was consistent across both standard LEDs and Dynasolis™, but the Dynasolis™ solution provided an additional boost due to its optimized spectrum.
3. Effective Relaxation
To assess relaxation, subjects were first placed in a room lit by standard 4000K LEDs to acclimate. They were then subjected to a stress-inducing cognitive task, followed by a relaxation phase under different lighting conditions. The results indicated that subjects felt more relaxed under 2700K lighting, regardless of whether it was standard LED or Dynasolis™. The Dynasolis™ solution, however, provided equal relaxation benefits while maintaining the advantages of its spectrum tuning.
4. Comprehensive Benefits Across Applications
The study confirmed that Dynasolis™ could meet various human lighting needs more effectively than standard LEDs. Its ability to tune both color temperature and melanopic illuminance makes it a superior solution for applications ranging from workspaces and educational facilities to healthcare and hospitality environments.
The results from the Fraunhofer IBP study underscore the significant advantages of the Dynasolis™ lighting solution. By incorporating cyan light and optimizing the spectrum, Dynasolis™ enhances attention and alertness and supports relaxation and overall well-being. This dual capability makes Dynasolis™ a versatile and effective choice for human-centric lighting applications.
