This product is a UV-rated LED optic designed for deep-ultraviolet LEDs. It concentrates the radiation of the LED into a narrow beam, which raises the irradiance on the target surface substantially compared with the bare emitter.

Optics for the UV-C range cannot be made from the materials used for visible light. PMMA and most glasses absorb strongly below 300 nm and degrade quickly under deep-UV radiation, so an ordinary lens loses transmission within hours and eventually clouds over. This optic uses a UV-transparent material and is designed for the emitting surface of the matching UV LED package.

In a disinfection system the optic is not a cosmetic addition. Concentrating the available milliwatts onto the surface that needs treating is often what makes the difference between a workable exposure time and an impractical one.
