MatrixMini-25-4080 Nichia LED Matrix Module Neutral White 4000K, 5 x 5 cells (150 x 150 mm), Plug & Play
The MatrixMini-25-4080 is part of our MatrixMini system: a rigid LED matrix made of 3 x 3 cm cells, each with four Nichia mid-power LEDs, which can be connected, separated and combined into almost any shape without soldering. This module (5 x 5 cells, 150 x 150 mm) is a 15 x 15 cm square light engine for LED panels, ceiling lights, backlit signs and evenly lit surfaces. Its 100 LEDs deliver 1885 lm of neutral white 4000K light at 12 W, an efficacy of 156 lm/W at a realistic junction temperature of 65°C, and a very high luminous density of 83,000 lm per square meter of LED surface.
With four evenly spaced LEDs in every 3 x 3 cm cell, the matrix produces evenly distributed light that can be diffused uniformly even behind slim covers. A color rendering index above 85 ensures pleasant, natural light. Binning to a 3-step MacAdam ellipse ensures consistent light color across modules. The 4000K light color creates a clean, focused pure white light that supports concentration and alertness. MatrixMini modules operate at 24 V constant voltage, are made in Germany and are backed by a 5-year warranty.

Applications of the MatrixMini-25-4080 LED Module 4000K
With its freely combinable cells, high luminous density and uniform light, the MatrixMini-25-4080 4000K is designed for the following main applications:
- Troffer and panel lighting: In LED panels and troffers, MatrixMini modules are combined into evenly lit light surfaces of the required size, joined with direct connectors. The dense, even LED grid allows uniform light behind slim diffusers. More about LED strips and modules for troffer lights.
- Ceiling and wall lights: For ceiling, wall and pendant luminaires in homes, offices, shops and hospitality, the MatrixMini-25-4080 provides a compact, high-output light engine that can be shaped to the luminaire, square, round or linear, by combining or separating cells. See our LED modules for ceiling lights.
- Signage: Because cells can be joined in any direction, MatrixMini modules follow the shapes of illuminated letters, logos and signs, and the high luminous density gives bright, eye-catching signs with low energy use. For a uniform result, match the LED pitch to the depth of the sign. More about LED modules for signage backlighting and LED pitch and distance to cover for optimum backlighting.
- Backlighting and light ceilings: Behind translucent materials such as stretch ceilings, acrylic, onyx, marble or textiles, MatrixMini modules create large, evenly lit light surfaces, light ceilings and backlit walls, as well as illuminated showcases and displays. Read our guide on how to create a light ceiling with LED modules.
- High-quality white light: With a color rendering index above 85 and very high efficacy, the module provides pleasant, natural light at low energy cost. The 4000K color temperature gives a clean, focused pure white light that supports concentration and alertness. Find out which color temperature suits your project in our guide Choosing the right color temperature for LED lighting.
- Horticulture: lettuce production: In vertical farms, MatrixMini modules can be combined into grow light panels of exactly the shelf size. Their 4000K white spectrum covers the whole visible range with a single LED type, supporting healthy crop growth while allowing easy visual inspection. See our page on LED grow lights for lettuce production.
- Horticulture: microalgae photobioreactors: Flat MatrixMini panels can be placed close to flat-panel or tubular photobioreactors to illuminate the culture evenly over a large surface; white light is a practical choice for dense cultures, since green photons penetrate further into the suspension. Read our guides on LED light engines for microalgae photobioreactors and how to design grow lights for photobioreactors.
- Horticulture: microgreens: For microgreens trays, the modules can be arranged to the tray dimensions and positioned close to the crop canopy to reach the target light level evenly. More on LED grow light engines for microgreens production.
- Horticulture: supplemental daylight for strawberries and tomatoes: With their high luminous density, MatrixMini panels are well suited for compact supplemental grow lights that extend the day length and raise the daily light integral of fruiting crops such as strawberries and tomatoes. Read more about strawberry cultivation with LED grow lights.
Please note: MatrixMini modules are not waterproof and are specified for operation at 10% to 60% relative humidity. For greenhouses, grow rooms and other humid environments, install them in a closed luminaire housing.
The Plug & Play System for MatrixMini and Multibar
MatrixMini modules use the same solder-free plug-fit connectors as our Multibar LED strips. Each 3 x 3 cm cell has connection points on all four sides, so modules can be joined not only into lines but also into angles, crosses, letters and large surfaces, with evenly spaced LEDs across the joints. A matrix can also be separated by hand into smaller pieces, down to a single cell, and the connectors still work on the separated parts. The system components (sold separately):
- Direct connector (SKU 54003): joins two modules edge to edge without a cable, keeping the LED spacing the same across the joint.
- Connectors with cable, 6, 100 or 500 cm (SKU 54004, 54008, 54009): bridge gaps, edges and angles, for example between the letters of a sign or the segments of a shape.
- Connectors with power supply adapter, 30, 100 or 500 cm (SKU 54005, 54010, 54011): connect the first module directly to a compatible power supply, for example our 24 V plug & play power supply (SKU 95137, 12 W) for small installations of up to about 20 cells.
- Spacers, set of 4 (SKU 41510): self-adhesive spacers for quick mounting on hard surfaces.
All connectors are rated for a maximum of 5 A. Each cell draws 20 mA at 24 V, so one feed point can supply up to 250 cells; for larger surfaces, such as several 9 x 14 modules, add further feed points. MatrixMini modules can also be combined with Multibar strips in the same 24 V installation.

Installation and Operation
- Separating: the matrix can be separated by hand along the cell borders into smaller pieces, down to a single 3 x 3 cm cell; avoid bending the remaining parts.
- Mounting: fix the modules with screws through the mounting holes or with spacers (SKU 41510). For larger surfaces and high output, mount them on a metal surface of the luminaire for good heat dissipation.
- Connection: join the modules with direct connectors or connectors with cable, and connect them to the power supply with a power supply adapter. Up to 250 cells can be supplied from one feed point (connectors max. 5 A); add feed points for larger installations.
- Power supply: use a stabilized 24 V DC constant voltage LED driver with short-circuit, overload and overtemperature protection, sized for the connected modules (12 W per module) plus a safety margin. For dimming, use a dimmable driver or a 24 V PWM dimmer.
- Handling: observe standard ESD precautions, keep the modules away from aggressive chemicals, and store and operate them at 10% to 60% relative humidity.
- Safety: installation must comply with all applicable electrical and safety standards and should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
Why the MatrixMini-25-4080 Outperforms Low-Cost LED Modules
Compared with low-cost LED modules, the MatrixMini-25-4080 differs in three areas that decide how long a lighting installation performs well:
- LED quality: we use only brand-name LEDs from Nichia, the Japanese LED market leader whose researchers invented the blue and white LED technology, with full manufacturer datasheets and performance tested in the lab and in real applications. Low-cost strips often use LED chips of unknown origin, without certified data, so their quality and color vary from one purchase to the next.
- PCB design and materials: high-quality materials and a design without mechanical and electrical weak points, for good current flow, heat transfer and long-term reliability.
- Realistic specifications: all values are measured at a junction temperature of 65°C, so the performance in our datasheet matches what you get in a real installation.
