The BackMatrix-49-2080 5000K is a large LED module made for backlighting: light boxes, illuminated signs, billboards and luminous ceilings. Its 49 Nichia LEDs with an ultra-wide 180° beam angle are distributed evenly over a 280 x 280 mm board, so the light blends into a uniform surface behind a diffuser even at a short distance, which allows shallow constructions with fewer visible hotspots. One module delivers 1300 lm of neutral white 5000K light at about 9.91 W, an efficacy of 131 lm/W, about 16,600 lm per square meter.

The module operates at 24 V constant voltage, needs no additional cooling, and LEDs binned to a 3-step MacAdam ellipse keep the light uniform across many modules. The 5000K light color creates a neutral, daylight-like white light that keeps colors crisp and supports concentration. BackMatrix modules are made in Germany and backed by a 5-year warranty.

Applications of the BackMatrix-49-2080 LED Module 5000K

Designed for even backlighting of large surfaces, the BackMatrix-49-2080 is used in the following main applications:

• Billboards and luminous ceilings: For backlit billboards, large light boxes and luminous ceilings, BackMatrix-49-2080 modules are mounted side by side behind the translucent surface to light it evenly from edge to edge. See our LED modules for luminous ceilings.

Why BackMatrix for Large Illuminated Surfaces

• Fewer parts per square meter: each module covers 280 x 280 mm with an even grid of Nichia LEDs, so about 13 modules light one square meter, much faster to install than rows of LED strips or many small modules.
• Even light distribution: the regular LED grid blends into a uniform surface behind a diffuser, without visible hotspots, the basis for homogeneous light boxes, signs and luminous ceilings. • Solder-free connection: an insulation displacement terminal accepts connection cables of up to 1 mm² (AWG 18), for example our cable SKU 37592, without soldering; we recommend the BackMatrix tool bit (SKU 95402). Holes on the board allow the cables to be fixed with cable ties.
• Simple 24 V system: modules are connected in parallel to one 24 V constant voltage power supply, so any number of modules can be combined to the size of the surface, limited only by the power supply and the cable cross-section.
• Consistent color: Nichia LEDs binned to a 3-step MacAdam ellipse keep brightness and light color uniform across all modules of a large surface.

Installation and Operation

• Mounting: fix the module flat on a stable surface, supporting the board at suitable mounting points; do not bend the board or clamp the components. No additional cooling is required.
• Connection: connect the modules with the solder-free insulation displacement terminal, using cables of up to 1 mm² (AWG 18), and fix the cables with cable ties through the holes on the board; soldering is possible as an alternative.
• Power supply: connect several modules in parallel to a stabilized 24 V DC constant voltage LED driver with short-circuit, overload and overtemperature protection, sized for the total load (9.91 W per module) plus a safety margin. For large surfaces, feed the modules in groups with adequately sized cables to keep the voltage drop low.
• Handling: observe standard ESD precautions, keep the modules away from aggressive chemicals, and store and operate them at 10% to 60% relative humidity.
• Safety: installation must comply with all applicable electrical and safety standards and should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
