The BackMatrix-49-3090 3000K is a high-output LED module for backlighting large surfaces: light boxes, billboards, signs and luminous ceilings. Its 49 Nichia LEDs on a 290 x 290 mm board deliver up to 3060 lm of warm white 3000K light, about 36,000 lm per square meter, with an efficacy of up to 149 lm/W and a color rendering index above 90, so printed graphics, materials and colors look natural.

A unique feature is the on-board brightness setting: with two switches on the module, you can select one of three levels, 1055, 2085 or 3060 lm, at 7.06, 14.11 or 21.17 W. This lets you adapt the same module to the depth and the material of the light box, or balance the brightness of different areas, without an external dimmer. The module operates at 24 V constant voltage, needs no additional cooling, and is made in Germany with a 5-year warranty. The 3000K light color creates a soothing warm white light that keeps a relaxing atmosphere but adds a little more clarity than 2700K.

Applications of the BackMatrix-49-3090 LED Module 3000K

Designed for even backlighting of large surfaces, the BackMatrix-49-3090 is used in the following main applications:

• Billboards and luminous ceilings: For backlit billboards, large light boxes and luminous ceilings, BackMatrix-49-3090 modules are mounted side by side behind the translucent surface to light it evenly from edge to edge. See our LED modules for luminous ceilings.

Why BackMatrix for Large Illuminated Surfaces

• Fewer parts per square meter: each module covers 290 x 290 mm with an even grid of Nichia LEDs, so about 12 modules light one square meter, much faster to install than rows of LED strips or many small modules.
• Even light distribution: the regular LED grid blends into a uniform surface behind a diffuser, without visible hotspots, the basis for homogeneous light boxes, signs and luminous ceilings. • Solder-free connection: an insulation displacement terminal accepts connection cables of up to 1 mm² (AWG 18), for example our cable SKU 37592, without soldering; we recommend the BackMatrix tool bit (SKU 95402). Holes on the board allow the cables to be fixed with cable ties.
• Simple 24 V system: modules are connected in parallel to one 24 V constant voltage power supply, so any number of modules can be combined to the size of the surface, limited only by the power supply and the cable cross-section.
• Consistent color: Nichia LEDs binned to a 3-step MacAdam ellipse keep brightness and light color uniform across all modules of a large surface.

Installation and Operation

• Mounting: fix the module flat on a stable surface, supporting the board at suitable mounting points; do not bend the board or clamp the components. No additional cooling is required.
• Connection: connect the modules with the solder-free insulation displacement terminal, using cables of up to 1 mm² (AWG 18), and fix the cables with cable ties through the holes on the board; soldering is possible as an alternative.
• Power supply: connect several modules in parallel to a stabilized 24 V DC constant voltage LED driver with short-circuit, overload and overtemperature protection, sized for the total load (up to 21.17 W per module at the full level) plus a safety margin. For large surfaces, feed the modules in groups with adequately sized cables to keep the voltage drop low.
• Handling: observe standard ESD precautions, keep the modules away from aggressive chemicals, and store and operate them at 10% to 60% relative humidity.
• Safety: installation must comply with all applicable electrical and safety standards and should be carried out by a qualified electrician.
